During the USA President George Bush’s visit in Latvia and the Netherlands, NATO is going to use AWACS system aircraft for patrolling the air space of both countries. This was said in the announcement by the alliance published on Wednesday.

«Upon request from Latvian and the Netherlands governments, NATO has agreed to provide security support from May 6 till 8 by assigning AWACS aircraft to provide aviation security during George Bush’s visit to both countries,» said the document.

Early warning and control system aircraft monitor the air space using electronic instruments. Since 2001, NATO has about 20 times assigned this type of aircraft to guarantee the security during «especially important events», also during the recent funeral of the Roman Pope Jan Paul II and Olympic games in Athens.
